Default Club trip/vacation planning

Any interst in any group trips this year? New flyer eager to learn and needs help finding the good stuff.

WW demo days may be the first opportunity April 3-6. Not sure how crowded these events are or if worth it. Anyone planning on going? If I go I'm thinking of heading out late on March 30th and possibly returning so I'm back in Ohio by Sat afternoon. Plans are pretty flexible.

What else is worth checking out? I read that TTT is a whole month earlier this year.

(I've purposely placed this post here to ensure we don't publicize travel plans to the World).

The skies over the WW Demo Days can be pretty crowded. So long as you stay over the field (be it the Ranch or Quest) you will be in a large gaggle. A scary mass of gliders coming and going and turning and passing and waking and cramping and basically making life hell! It sure is fun, but eats on your nerves after a while. I tend to try and put myself just out of the gaggles reach. Usually means I'm 1+ glide to the field, but there is usually a glider or two that you can pimp off of to make it back. Not sure if I am going, but there are a few who usually go.

The TTT Team Challenge is a great experience. It is a month earlier this year. That means my membership should still be good so there is a high probability I'll be there. I hope I'll make several trips down that way this summer. (Lookout or TTT, I'm not picky.)

I'll also be taking some trips up to Whitewater WI to fly with my Dad.

Looks like I need to rethink Demo Days...

I intend to do TTT again this year. Hope the move into Sep brings better odds for better weather!

Hope to make an addtional run (or two) to LOM and/or Hensons.

Also considering a run to Big Walker.

A recent article in the mag about a place near Camp David caught my attention ... was it High Rock?

Then there's the west. I dont see it happenng this year, but a trip to Utah and CO would be a hoot. Larry.. Where is Sand Turn? Is that near Dayton?

Dayton is five miles from Sand Turn launch. High Rock is the site close to Camp David, John and I flew there often in the 70's and 80's.

Default How about weekend trips?

I will not be able to do long trips this year, but I plan to leverage every weekend between April 18 - May 20 to drive wherever the best weather is. Leaving on Friday late afternoon, returning late Sunday evening.. Big walker, Sequatchie valley down close to Atlanta, enjoy field or napannee up north... Any direction, upto 8+ hours radius from Cincinnati, weekend camp and fly trips.

Any recommended flying sites?

Default tripping out to fly...

I have the itch and am "retired" (but still have to give notice here at home). Will be in FL 3/24 - 4/? and will look at flying Quest at the height of demo days @Wallaby.

Can usually head to Henson's on short notice. Am willing to do a down and back on the same day, or camp for a couple days. Would climb @T-Wall, Leida, Sunset or other local crags if its not flyable and you are a climber.

Open to lots of possibilities - anyone ever flown Sleeping Bear Dunes? Would love to tag along to Big Walker, High Rock...anywhere in a days drive.

Am very interested in the Wyoming trip if that is open to the club.

High Rock was featured in a recent USHPA magazine article. Henson's is north of Chattanooga about 45 minutes. It sits above the Sequatchie Valley overlooking Dunlap, TN.

Default Let's go

Adventure is a big part of this sport. I don't much about these eastern sites, but point me in the right direction.

I may even have a 17 year old driver, that is if camping and other adventure (climbing) are involved.
